The record for the largest Pumpkin Pie ever made was set on September 26, 2010 by the membership of the New Bremen, Ohio Giant Pumpkin Growers association.
The massive pie was put together by 9 chefs and measured 20 feet in diameter, and weighing in at 3,699 pounds.
The previous world record holding pie measured just 12 feet in diameter and weighed in at a measly 2,020 pounds.
The monster pie was baked in front of hundred of spectators in a homemade oven. While it’s diameter was large beyond belief, the thickness of the pie was a mere 3 inches. A pretty impressive feat in itself that the pie was handled without breaking. It was a several day plan that required lots of hard work including a custom pie pan and careful crust planning.
The ingredients for this Pumpkin Pie included:
- 187 cans of pumpkin
- 233 dozen eggs
- 109 gallons of evaporated milk
- 525 lbs of sugar
- 7 lbs of salt
- 14.5 lbs of cinnamon
- 3 lbs of pumpkin pie spice
Because of the size, the baking had to be started the night before the ceremony and midnight. It was given a full 2 hours to cool before the pie was cut into approximately 5000 pieces and served to hungry spectators.
